Submission Guidelines
Updated 1/2008 (everything new is in blue)
General:
1.) When you submit your writing or art to Lyceum, you accept the following terms:
2.) No anonymous submissions are accepted.
3.) You cannot name your piece "Untitled." Lyceum is all for artistic license, but the fact is a lot of people don't title their pieces, and it makes our issue confusing and not as a exciting.
Writing:
1.) We accept almost any type of writing. Nonfiction, fiction, poetry, prose, and essay formats are accepted. Writing does not have to be censored (as in, moderate use of mature concepts/language is not a problem), but all writing should be edited and complete.
2.) Length: there is no minimum or maximum word count for submissions. Please note, however, that preference may be given to pieces that are more moderate in length in order to encourage author variety in the issue, depending on the submissions received.
3.) Quantity: you can submit as many pieces as you'd like.
4.) We would strongly prefer that your piece be sent via e-mail or via our online submission form. This minimizes errors and makes sure your piece is shown in its original form.
Art:
1.) Lyceum believes art has no limits, and therefore any media type is encouraged and accepted. However, you must state your media type at the time of submission. We usually receive paintings, photos, drawings, and collages, but we are also open to the 3D arts (you'd have to take a photo of it at several angles).
2.) Digital photos are most easily submitted via e-mail or submission form. All other traditional art forms should be given to our office. We will keep your piece safely for approximately two months, and then return it to you.
3.) Size: there is no size limit, technically. If it is exceedingly large, we will decide on a case by case basis. Also, it MUST be large enough to put into print. This is especially true with digital photos. Please make sure you send us images that are at least 4x4 inches or about 400x400 pixels. Anything smaller may not be accepted because we won't be able to reproduce it.
4.) Quantity: you can submit as many pieces as you'd like.
5.) Cover: your piece may be selected for our cover, in which case we will contact you.
6.) Orientation: Pieces that are vertical or square format reproduce much better. Hortizontal pieces are accepted, but be aware that they do not print as well, so if you want, you can crop it so it is square.
